PRICECHECK IS DELIGHTED TO RECEIVE A QUEEN’S AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE
Sheffield based Pricecheck Toiletries Ltd. is celebrating being named a winner of the UK’s highest accolade for business success – The Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Approximately 140 Queen’s Awards have been announced this year for outstanding business achievement in the fields of International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development. The awards are made annually by HM The Queen, and coincide with Her Majesty’s birthday – April 21st.
Pricecheck is a second generation family owned business, established in 1978 by the parents of Mark Lythe and Debbie Harrison, who now run the company as Joint Managing Directors. A leading supplier of international branded consumer goods, we work predominately in the health and beauty sector, dealing with discounted clearance stock. We sell to a variety of outlets in our global network, including discounters, independent stores, wholesalers, pharmacies, mail order companies and internet retailers. We have a turnover of £40million and staff of 71 employees based at our 100,000 square foot warehouse and offices in Sheffield.
Pricecheck has received this award in the International Trade category, in recognition of massively growing our export sales over a six year period – from £3m in 2009, to £12m in 2014. Pricecheck has exported to several countries for many years, but in 2009 we adopted a more concentrated approach with dedicated export salespeople, overseas visits and foreign trade shows. We have called upon the assistance of many business support services such as the International Trade Forum, the Chamber of Commerce and particularly the UKTI, who inspired us to be more targeted, strategic and pro-active in pursuing export business. We now export to over 50 countries.
Over the past six years Pricecheck’s success has translated into more jobs for the local area, with our own staff numbers increasing from 32 to 71. Local suppliers and haulage firms have also benefitted from the growth. Pricecheck is a Youth Friendly Employer and we work closely with the Sheffield Universities, employing placement students and many graduates. We offer a wide variety of roles from warehouse jobs to positions in Sales, Buying and Finance, and all our staff are offered full-time permanent contracts.
Being a Sheffield-based, family company we are passionate about the local area and actively support several Sheffield charities, including St Luke’s Hospice and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Pricecheck’s success story continues and this year we will be relocating to larger premises within Sheffield to facilitate further growth. The new premises will allow us to double our turnover from £40m to an anticipated £80m, and increase staff numbers to 150 over a five year period. Winning the Queen’s Award will enhance our reputation worldwide and will help us to achieve our ambitious growth plans.
As winners of The Queen’s Award, Pricecheck will receive an invitation from Her Majesty The Queen to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace. A formal presentation will also take place at our business premises, where the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire will present the award. We will also be able to display the prestigious Queen’s Award emblem in advertising and marketing material for the next five years as a symbol of our quality and success.
